Ammon has been an legal Ellison for 3 months now! It seems like we've known him forever but just put him in the van after Civil Affairs and watched him pee over the elevator and then straddle the trash can to relieve himself. That was 3 months ago now.
When Ammon was Gregory in Groups 12 and 13, his file was sent out only twice; one never communicated with us again and the other turned out to be a complete loon who would request kids files from multiple agencies and pretend to want to adopt them as a way to entertain herself. At the last minute before his file HAD to go back, my husband and I could not allow that to happen. He deserved a family too. We aren't total saints and martyrs! We knew that we wanted him to be part of a family, our family, and that we would get alot in return for the blessing of being his parents. What we absolutely did not realize was how much we NEED him. Every child in our family has been touched by him in a way only he has been able to do. They would all admit they wouldn't know what to do without Ammon in their lives.
Ammon's purpose is to remind us that no matter how bleak your circumstances or how unfair life appears, there is a reason to be joyful. How we have all needed to remember that! Whether it is the "I Hit the Jackpot Squeal and Dance" he does every time we take the egg carton out of the fridge or his newly discovered adoration of the hot tub, or the delight he finds in everyday objects, it reminds us we have lost that.
Yesterday I went to get him off the school bus and he was sitting on the window side where he could see me waiting. Usually he is on the other side. I have teenagers and let me tell you, they aren't ever going to let me know that they are happy to see me. But Ammon? Oh my! He was laughing, grinning from ear to ear, tapping on the window, bouncing in his seats and blowing me kisses. Who else greets me with that much celebration? It made me teary. Should all of us be so blessed! And I am!
I've added pictures to his blog and you can see just what he thinks of his daddy. http://ammonsadventures.blogspot.com
